Rouutemaster 1983 ALD 983B came into London Transport service in August 1964 in the usual LT livery of the time. She spent most of her time at various Central Area garages. 1983 being the year of the 50th Anniversary of the London Transports formation in 1933 and to mark this occasion LT needed a vehicle that would be symbolic of the year. So Routemaster 1983, which up to this time was quite happy trundling around in red, became the chosen vehicle. Repainted into Gold with an off-white mid-decks band and plus appropriate signage. This was "We have been together for 50 years", plus a special symbol on both sides below the lower deck windows. After time at various garages, she was sold out of service to other owners, such as Kelvin Scottish and Cumberland, and repainted into their liveries. She eventually came back to the London area and SullivanBus repainted her into the Gold livery she wore in the celebration year of 1983. She then was sold onto to an Essex company who repainted her into London Transport red and was used on the cruise liner transport in Parkstone Quay near Harwich.
